DOE is funding a plan by Enexor and INL to turn food and ag waste into clean, reliable biofuels for power generation.

FRANKLIN, Tennessee. (July 22, 2024) – Enexor BioEnergy has been awarded a Department of Energy SBIR Phase I grant worth $199,459 to support development of a modular biomass preprocessing system. The project advances work to convert diverse organic waste streams into feedstocks for renewable power and thermal energy generation.

Under contract DE‑SC0024970, Enexor will collaborate with Idaho National Laboratory to test preprocessing methods using waste sourced from AB InBev’s operations in Idaho Falls. The project will evaluate algae and barley dust streams, integrate with Enexor’s Bio‑CHP system, and gather data on techno-economic performance, environmental impact, and market feasibility.

“This DOE grant validates our approach and gives us a path to scale our system design and field testing,” said Lee Jestings, CEO of Enexor. “It enables us to refine performance, validate new feedstock flexibility, and prepare for global deployment of waste‑to‑energy systems.”

In Phase I, project goals include demonstrating functional preprocessing and integration, and conducting market modeling and community impact analysis. Success in Phase I would position the project for subsequent commercialization phases.

The award reinforces ongoing innovation in modular clean energy systems and supports global waste-to-energy deployment.
